Meet Your Head Coach

Steve Kiernan

Grassroot Coach of the Year 2024

Developing Players. Developing Coaches.

Led by Steve Kiernan, Badminton England Grassroots Coach of the Year 2024, our coaching programme supports players from their first experience of badminton through to competitive play.

Many of our young players now compete in county tournaments and Badminton England circuits, with a number of players who developed through Badminton Centre going on to represent their county.

We're also committed to continually developing the quality of coaching our members receive. We have our own growing team of Level 2 coaches, Luke Evans, Jay Chagger and our new performance coach Vignesh Kumar Paramasivan!  Over the years we've also welcomed leading coaches and international players including Andy Wood (Olympic Medal Winning Coach), Anthony Clark (Olympian and Word Championship Medalist), Greg & Jenny Mairs (National Champions, and Yonex All England Quaterfinalists, Matt Hanson (former Junior International Coach) and Lorraine Cole (England Number 1 and World Number 10 to work with our players and coaching team.

By bringing experience and knowledge into the club, we're not only developing the next generation of badminton players — we're developing the next generation of coaches too!

From first racket to competition. From young player to future coach.

Club Partnerships & Associates

As a Badminton Centre, we are passionate about creating opportunities for people to participate in badminton in our local communities. We are proud to collaborate with many local clubs, schools and coaches to make sure the badminton journey for every player of every ability is positive and they are directed to the best place for their needs.

Activ Sports Badminton Club

As with other clubs the Badminton Centre is a hub for anyone to train and play more badminton against players from a mixture of clubs. We have very close links with Activ Sports - Performance Coach Alan Wong has a great set up for children representing the County and beyond. We have directed players their way once they have reached a certain level of play and maturity - likewise players who are not quite performance level or need a bit more support and motivation have been directed to the Badminton Centre to prepare them for the performance sessions Alan runs.

Woodrush Dragons

Developing new and upcoming clubs is the way to grow the sport we love.

Lighthall Badminton Club

Lighthall Badminton Club is based in Solihull and we're a friendly but competitive club with current membership just in excess of 40. We welcome any player over the age of 16 of a decent standard who has ideally played league standard badminton.

  • Our local players get to play more competitive matches allowing more opportunities to develop and improve

  • Our full time dedicated coaches get the security of consitent work and flow of new members directed by our collaborators

  • Your club has a section which will constantly feed into your current club securing the future and longevity of your club

  • The local Solihull League grows creating more teams and opportunities to play within the community
